Fox using Joe Buck, Troy Aikman and Tim McCarver as key players in its NFL and MLB coverage is high-level sports-fan trolling. Everyone knows this and accepts this. (Almost everyone.) Yet listening to Aikman provide color commentary for the Giants-Cowboys game is so hilariously awful that you have to wonder if his Fox Sports overlords lost a bet at some point. There’s no other explanation to how Aikman could have a job that requires him to unbiasedly report on the Cowboys, a team he played for throughout the better part of 12 seasons.
The Cowboys first half against the Giants was a disaster. Tony Romo threw three interceptions and muffed a snap; Dez Bryant fumbled and lost a punt. The Giants currently lead 23-0, and even after an Ahmad Bradshaw fumble, show no signs of slowing down.
Here are things that Aikman actually said with a straight face:
“It’s just a 6-nothing ball game.”
“Some poor tackling on the Giants part.”
“The fact that [the Cowboys are] just down 16 points …”
Immediately after that last comment, Romo threw a pick six.
