“Lincoln” is an impeccably detailed production — after the screening, Spielberg revealed that sound designer Ben Burtt (“Star Wars”) found Abraham Lincoln’s actual pocket watch and recorded its ticking for the film — that’s loaded with laudable performances. Among the notable actors: Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, David Strathairn, James Spader, John Hawkes and Michael Stuhlbarg, all of whom could find themselves in the Supporting Actor conversation.
Kase and I went to the secret premiere screening of “Lincoln” at the New York Film Festival on Monday night. It was kind of incredible — we sat third row and could have high-fived Steven Spielberg if we so desired. The movie is good — too wonky at times, too tin-eared at others, but it’s an overall strong effort. Daniel Day-Lewis is perfect, but you knew that. More here.
